Oaks
Since the pandemic and the passing of my father on the first day of the shut-down, nature has become my solace. Walking has helped to process my grief and balance the stress of the COVID unknown. The live oaks (Quercus virginiana) of City Park a support network in isolation. Their branches embracing my sorrow and stretching my path further afield. In this series I hope to honor these witnesses of human history, and a contemplate our impact on them. The eldest of the oak grove is estimated to be 800 years old. Live oaks live approximately 900 years. If that is the case, then many of these monuments are in the last third of their life cycle, as I am most definitely in mine.
